Welcome & Greetings

I am a Professor of History at the University of Regina in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, and currently Head of the Department. I teach a variety of courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels and have written and edited nearly 20 books. My most recent books include a co-authored two-volume history of Canada: Conflict and Compromise. My other books include: Pre-Confederation Canada, Post-Confederation Canada, the award-winning Lions and Jellyfish, History of Newfoundland-Ottawa Relations Since 1957, and Celebrating Canada: Holidays, National Days, and the Crafting of Identities, which I co-edited with Matthew Hayday.

Currently, I am writing two books, one on how Canadian prime ministers have articulated a national identity through their rhetoric and speeches and another on how Newfoundland viewed union with Canada since the 1860s. Both projects are supported with generous grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
